Converting the classic movie of 1975, Sholay in 3D and revisiting the classic with new technology was quite challenging as said by the director Ketan Mehta, who was involved in the metamorphosis of the movie.
Mehta was approached by the grandsons of G. P. Sippy who urged him to convert the Amitabh Bachchan – Dharmendra starrer movie in 3D through his Maya Digital Studios. The film is set for release in 3D on January 3, 2014 by UTV.
Mehta told in an interview, “It was a big challenge to convert such an iconic film into 3D because it is 38-year-old. The negative was fading and had to be restored and digitised. All the corrections had to be made and then we had to convert it from 2D to 3D.”
Mehta, who has been involved in making films like ‘Mirch Masaala’, ‘Maya Memsaab’ and ‘Mangal Pandey’, he would like to convert many other classics from Hindi cinema as it will enhance the experience of viewing them as he strongly believes in using the new technologies that help captivate the audiences with the beauty they create.
